Bad Axe, the Huron County seat in Michigan's Thumb, owes its name to a worn-out axe a road surveyor found at a hunter's cabin in 1861. The legislature renamed the town Huron in 1909, but residents objected and the old name came back. Its Pizza Hut Classic is on North Van Dyke.
